The Wayfarer - Dining in Barcelona

Barcelona is a vibrant and lively city teaming with great places to eat; it maintains its strong Spanish roots whilst embracing international influence and this is reflected by its food.  Socialising and eating are strongly entwined within Spanish culture, making Barcelona a true foodie city.

LA BOQUERIA MARKET

La Boqueria Market  is one of Europe's largest and most famous food markets and is a foodie hotspot for both tourists and locals.  Past its decadent iron entrance lies a bustling market teaming with vibrant displays of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood and snacks that would have any culinary connoisseur spoilt for choice.  There is also an extensive selection of smoothies and sweet treats on offer, I would particularly recommend trying the selection of caramelised nuts that are on offer - they are heavenly.

BUBÓ PATISSERIE

Bubó pastry shop is a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds with its spectrum of macaroons, intricately made cakes, freshly baked pastries and handmade chocolates, all painstakingly hand crafted by its team of award-winning pastry chefs.   Its colourful array of glittering designer sweets are stashed in glass cabinets amidst the patisserie's modern interior.  It's not hard to see why Bubo is often likened to a jewellery shop.

LA LUNA

La Luna cocktail bar and restaurant is hidden away in the heart of the El Borne neighbourhood.   Its cosy medieval interior which features exposed brick arches is an atmospheric place to unwind over a cold glass of sangria.  La Luna puts a modern twist on Spanish cuisine with its fusion tex-mex tapas menu.

BO DE B

Bo De B has gained widespread notoriety for its sandwiches that are freshly made to order.  There are an array of quality fillings and selection of sauces that put Subway to shame.  What you get for several Euros is a sandwich of an epic scale making it great value for money lunch option.   Just a heads-up, this luncheon hotspot is prone to long queues due to its popularity but as they say, good things come to those who wait.

Sagardi pincho bar is a great place to go for a light bite to eat.  Pinchos are a type of tapas that comprise of individual portions of bread with various toppings such as cured ham or smoked salmon, spiked though with a skewer.  Pinchos are a socially orientated food and are generally consumed alongside small servings of wine or beer.  Sagardi great place to come for breakfast, lunch or even a light supper.

GELATERIA GIOVANNI

What better way to cool off than with some gelato?  The heavenly selection of gelato from Gelateria Giovanni is said to be some of the best in Barcelona.   Some of the unique flavours include Kinder Surprise and Bueno, which had us coming back for more - it was definitely a regular pitstop for us during my visit to Barcelona.

 HAPPY PILLS

Happy Pills is one of the quirkiest sweet shops that I've ever come across.   This tiny little shop has a modern pharmacy like interior.  The sweets are packaged in medicine bottles and pill boxes which is a very unique concept; because of this, Happy Pills make great gifts to bring back for friends and loved ones.
