LIMA FLORAL - LONDON

Lima Floral - The Wayfarer

So where's a girl (or guy) got to go for a decent Pisco Sour in London...?  Well Lima Floral's Pisco Bar is certainly a good option.  If you are not already familiar with the humble Pisco Sour then let me do the honour of acquainting you; it's Peru's signature cocktail.

Peruvian food is becoming increasingly popular on London's culinary scene and there's now even an annual London Pisco Sour Week.  In fact  Peru has a National Pisco Day - something that I think we should introduce here in the UK, if just for the excuse to get together and and get piscoed.

Located in Covent Garden, LIMA Floral is the sister restaurant to critically acclaimed LIMA, which has a michelin-starred rating.  Lima Floral has a sit-down dining area and nestled down in its basement is its Pisco Bar which serves an exotic array of  Pisco infusions with Amazonian fruits, Andean herbs, as well as local UK products not to mention some tasty 'Peruvian tapas'.

So without further ado, let's head down shall we?

LIMA Floral's cosy, exposed-brick basement bar was bustling during my visit, it seems that word has got out about this place since it opened last year.

Cocktail : Pisco Sour

The Pisco Sour in all its glory!  It's not a showy looking cocktail by any means - the complex flavours do all the legwork here.  Pisco Sour was invented in Lima (Peru's capital) in the 1920s by an experimental American bartender.  Quite similar to a whiskey sour it contains lime, sugar, egg white and Angostura Bitters and of course the key ingredient, Luna Pisco.

Cocktail : 'the one with the chillies'

This stand-out cocktail isn't on the menu but if you ask for the 'chilli cocktail' the waiter will probably know what you mean and you'll be presented with this playful cocktail, complete with chilli horns and all.  It's perfectly balanced between sweet and hot and was my favourite of the lot.  I just love it when a mixologist can pull off a cocktail containing chili because when it's done right it's so good.

Cocktail : El Senor De Sipan

Contains Prosecco, apple juice, raspberry syrup, Luna Pisco, Campari, Pisco foam, finished with a pretty flower, of course.

Cocktail : Noche De Verano (right at the back)

Contains vanilla infused Luna Pisco, Amaro Nonino, lime, lemon juice and strawberry.

The Pisco bar also serves an array of piqueos which are best described as 'Peruvian tapas'.  They go on a sharing concept making them a very social orientated food and you can keep on ordering more until you are satisfied.

Piqueo : Cauliflower and Foie Grass Cornetto. Chocolate Crumble.

The unique cauliflower and foie grass cornetto was very tasty indeed.  I highly recommend ordering it.

Lima Floral's Pisco Bar has a very social, informal and fun atmosphere; making for a perfect hangout to round up some friends.  Peruvian food and cocktails are certainly something that I am going to have to explore more in the future because going by what I've tried at Lima Floral, they are divine!
