Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam - The Wayfarer

I'm a big fan of design hotels - if you fork out for a hotel in another city, why would you want to stay somewhere that feels just like your apartment back at home?  Located on Amsterdam's water font, the Lloyd Hotel puts the 'q' in quirky; over 50 designers and artists worked on its interior and it's described as "a work in progress that will never be finished".  Each room is unique and guaranteed to give you a memorable stay.  The Lloyd Hotel is the world's first one to five start hotel, so it can accommodate to wide range of travellers.

The Lloyd Hotel is also a  cultural embassy which produces a programme of events and are mostly free.    There are plenty of lofty, open spaces throughout the hotel where you can hang out with your laptop or mingle with new people.  There's a restaurant and bar area on there ground floor where breakfast is served, all of which is prepared in its kitchens.

Rooms are allocated on check in, so what you'll get will be somewhat a surprise.  When I opened the door to my hotel room I had no idea what what would be on the other side, so there was a bathtub slap-bang in the middle, it was the last thing that I could have expected.  The rooms don't exactly prioritise practicality; this is definitely a hotel for the open minded.  The bath tub was very huge, you could probably fit a few people in it.  The room's wooden furniture was designed by Amsterdam’s well-known Droog collective.  Aside from the excitement of the bath, the room was overall relatively basic.
